Hamas Wins in a Landslide

Well it looks like 95% of the vote is in and Hamas has taken a wide majority of seats in parliament. It is very reassuring to know that the elections were done fairly and without corruption or threats. The people have spoken and I think the world community should recognize that Hamas' is the people's choice - at the same time I think its integral for Hamas to fulfill its obligation as an international player and drop the rhetoric of asking for the destruction of Israel. I have no problem with them saying, "We won't talk to Israel until X, Y, and Z" or "We won't negotiate with Israel" etc. But making requests for the destruction of another nation is simply counterproductive to the peace process. Israel for its part has remained true to its part of the pullout - for now. Israel has to recognize Hamas - they simply must. Israel has to reach out to Hamas and the Palestinian people. The Palestinians deserve to live on their own soil, under their own flag in stability. Israel also has this same right - but since Israel holds the power it is their perrogative to make this happen. Compromise must happen. Each side will have to give things up. I don't know if these two groups will ever be at peace with each other - but if the war they have with each other could be done at discussion tables and with words instead of tanks, armies, suicide bombings, and hate then perhaps both of these groups can live with some semblance of stability.
